What do you do when something you've said was taken out of context? Do you confront the person? Do you apologize and talk about your feelings? Or do you pretend like nothing happened?
Obviously, the most civilized thing to do is to talk about the issue with the person who might have been offended/ annoyed/ bothered/ horrified/ perplexed/ etc. etc. etc. But does this always work out for the best?
Many "professionals" would have you believe that talking about your feelings and having an open conversation regarding the issue will resolve the problem.

I disagree to a certain extent.
I'm not all convinced that "talking about your feelings" resolves much in the real world. Ideally, it would be nice if this was not the case; however, some people actually get offended if you bring to their attention misunderstandings. I guess it depends on you and the people you interact with. I have no research proving my beliefs; nor do I research dissproving them. I am simply going on a hunch....and the fact that I've been in situations where trying to talk about feelings led to more arguments....just sayin
So when I'm faced with a situation where there might not be a means to an end, what should I do?
